Topic #168: How long do you stay angry at someone or something? What’s the longest grudge you’ve ever held? Why do you think we hold grudges?

I tend to stay angry with someone for less than the time it takes me to walk away. I am not one to argue with people, I simply just say my piece, piss people off and walk away. If for some instance I am unable to do that, simply ignoring them is my next step. I learned long ago that holding a grudge is not a good thing to do. I do not turn the other cheek or forget the transgression that transpired. I just do not put the energy, thought, effort into holding a grudge.

I think most people hold grudges because they do not want the other party to get away with hurting them. People want to remember the pain, the anger and then at the proper time tap into it and use it. The problem with this is that life is a series of hurt and joy, pain and happiness, anger and hysteria. Why hold onto one event longer than necessary when the next one is right around the corner. Learn from it, adapt to it and spot the next time its about to strike and remove yourself from the situation.

What is your thoughts on holding grudges?
