Topic #170: They say “everything happens for a reason” – do you think this is true?

Bonus: If you do, what do you think was the reason for us picking this topic today?

I am a firm believer and have always felt that things happen for a reason. Whether I was experiencing good times or bad, I feel that there’s some sort of hidden lesson or purpose in every circumstance. I learn so much from every experience I go through, and oftentimes I find that I grow and mature the most when something unbearable happens.

I served 10 years in the military, traveled to numerous countries and all the while seemingly avoided the most dire of consequences. Along the way I lost many friends. But somehow I was always in the right spot at the right time. There were times when I did not quite understand the reasoning behind what was happening until it was over.

The first time someone delayed me and it resulted in my life being spared, I started to think about all the times this had happened. I could only explain it as me having not one but two guardian angels. After I stopped being mad and just accepting things happen for a reason. I am not discounting fate, destiny or free will. I am merely saying that with six billion people each making choices, exercising that free will as we say – are our lives not influenced by the actions of others?  How can we as deity believing people discount the existence of entities such as fate and destiny? Do we not pray to GOD to ease our ills, show us the preverbal light in hard times? Do we not thank god at every awards show, sporting event for providing the way.

So tell me, do you think that things happen for a reason or do you believe more in chance and luck?
