Topic #216: What do you want your tombstone to say? Topic suggested by Loren at the Cemetary Travel Blog.

I have never thought about what I would want my tombstone to say. I always believe I will find a cure to death. I would not want to live forever because that lends to being trapped in my own hell if everyone else should die. Why be the sole survivor on a dead planet? But since this topic is what I would want I have fuddled through a few ideas before finally resting on one.

At first I thought it would be nice to have “here lies a loving father, husband, brother” or something to that nature. Then I tossed around the idea of having just my name and something catchy like “here lies Merc who died of a splitting headache.” That is not catchy but you get the point. After a few minutes I decided to read the blog of the person that actually suggested this topic.

Epiphany moment! I chose to have this engraved on my final resting place. We all owe God a death, why not remind people and help them to get prepared. I want my tombstone to read:

“Traveler, stop and lend an eye. As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so shall you be. Prepare for death and follow me.”
